I would like to make a general comment or two. This seems to be a very
"scholarly" list.
This seems to be diametrically opposed to the approach that Christ took.
Early in his ministry, Christ told people to "keep the word about himself
quiet." Why would he do this? Why not "pulverize" people with "wondrous"
arguments". The apostle Paul preached not by persuasiveness of speech.
1Cor 2:4 "and my message and my preaching were not in persuasive words
of wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power." There are
probably better verses to illustrate my point, but this will have to do.
How long does it take for scholasticism to become pride? Most of us
have heard the scripture "knowledge puffeth up, but love buildeth up."
I argue that it takes just as long as the belief that there are errors
in the Bible. Historical errors are, without question, part of this.
The Bible is the Word of God. Can one person on this list give a reason
why God would allow historical errors in His Word?
I weary of all references to "the culture of the day" when the Bible was
written. I'd like a lot more attention paid to the implications they have
for God's character. This is not simply a science/history forum. What we
say about science/history impacts attitudes towards God.
