In Matthew 24:37-39 is the only place I can find that Jesus spoke about the
flood. He says, "As it was in the days of Noah, so it will be at the coming
of the Son of Man. For in the days before the flood, people were eating and
drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, up to the day Noah entered the
ark; and they knew nothing about what would happen until the flood came and
    took them away...."

There are no words here that indicate that the flood had to be global
instead of local. I don't think there are any on list that think the flood
didn't happen at all, are there? The local flood makes sense to me because
of the word "erets" which, as I remember, can be interpreted as "world" or
"land" from Hebrew. Anyway Jesus' point is about how it will be in the days
of the 2nd coming, and the focus is on the future comparing it to the way it
was before the flood which would have been the same had it been a very
expansive local flood or a worldwide one. The people who drowned didn't know
the difference - they just died!

And hey, did anyone ever consider the implications of the fact that God
saved animals and let people drown? Think of the reaction today if some
person built a boat and there was a huge flood and this guy ad a few family
members saved all these wildlife species but shut the door on drowning kids
and moms.... Its not a scene we really like to think about. But...it does
show how much God loves Creation and his animals, and how much we should
likewise give them some respect and devote time to preserving habitat for
them so they can survive off the ark!!

Give me a brief example of what types of situations you consider
"discounting historicity" of Scripture. No need to name names, just
    examples.
