    And this is what makes me so incredulous at the treatment of Neanderthal
    mtDNA. Europe was the very last place to be occupied by anatomically modern
    man (AMH) (save the uninhabited New World). Many anthropologists believe it
    was because Neanderthal was a fierce fighter. They were stronger than us as
    can be determined by muscle attachment sites. Thus, if they beat a village
    of AMH and took the women, then the children produced would have AMH mtDNA!
    So when we test the mtDNA of ever more ancient Neanderthals and find that it
    is different from modern mtDNA we then erroneously conclude that they left
    no ancestors. It very well might have been that they did, through their AMH
    wives.
