Hi James, you wrote:
So, I have to admit it.there are some issues there. But Dick, the biggest
problem I see is Tubal-Cain and bronze/iron tools - why didn't you point
that out instead of tents, musical instruments, etc?
I'm not sure exactly what you are asking. The Bronze and Iron ages mark the
earliest dates where we have evidence that smelting was used which requires
ovens and temperatures much higher than that required to simply bake bread.
Do you remember the "Ice Man" who rolled out of the Tyrolean Alps in 1991?
His body was radio carbon dated to 5,200 years ago (pre-flood date) and he
had an axe made of "secondary copper." The Hebrew nekh-o'-sheth (Gen. 4:22)
means either copper or bronze. Iron tools can be fashioned by simply
beating bog iron into useable shapes, no smelting required. So it is
entirely possible that earlier than 5000 years ago the Akkadians and
Sumerians possessed the ability to fashion copper and iron tools.
As to the RTB "timeline," move Abraham to ca. 2000 BC. Nobody puts Abraham
at 4000 BC. You can check that out easily. Move the flood to ca. 3000 BC
and Adam would be about 2,000 years earlier than that. The Septuagint has
2,262 years between Adam and the flood. Outside of that the rest of the
dates look fairly decent.
