2 points:
1) As far as I'm concerned, "Why is devotion to Christ important" was a rhetorical question. My point was that making the claim that he _is_ important is a doctrinal statement, albeit an extremely basic (& incomplete) one.
2) If a prominent YEC shows up on Sunday morning when I'm presiding at the service & comes forward for Communion, I'll give him/her the Sacrament. (Assuming, that is, that that person isn't an "open and notorious sinner," in which category I don't put holding YEC views!) But I will - as civilly but as forcefully as possible do everything I can to discredit that person's promulgation of YEC views.

No. But we aren't debating whether Buddha is better than Christ - I wouldn't be here if that were the case. We discuss the issues around the integration of science and faith - with Faith being Christianity. YEC's are certainly Christians. I think there are some people who call themselves Christians - who (in my opinion) probably aren't. But building walls won't help them to become better Christians or us to try and help them to become better Christians.
