It is experience in the ASA dealing with these issues as well as new DNA evidence that can now make the ASA secure in a wholesale rejection of a young earth. (When ASA was new and younger, it had to "find itself." Now a lot of water has traveled under the bridge and things are better known.) If the ASA were to reject a young earth, it could send shock waves through the church- but that would be good. The corresponding rubble is deserved. Churches will be slapped-in-the-face (or have cold-water thrown on them) to wake them up.

I completly disagree with you on this issue. It is abundantly clear
that ASA is not very YEC friendly. In his recent PSCF article Randy has
made it very clear that ASA will not tollerate warping of science to
support things like the Rate project. I doubt that ASA has many YEC
members so what is the real issue?

I have subscribed to Christianity Today for many years. In the last
five or ten years I have noticed that they have become less negative wrt
the TE/EC position and in fact some times they sound somewhat in favor,
at least once in a while. I think that for ASA to come out with a
strong separatist position that would be very counter productive.

A number of ID folks seem to want to disassociate themselves from the DI
and the IDM, so having a dedicated organization does not always seem to
be best.

In most churches it would not even register if ASA made acceptance of an
old earth a condition of membership.

It might be useful if there was a popular apologist like Ravi Z or Hugh
Ross who openly took an EC position, although I would have to wonder how
they would live as speaking engagements and bookstores to carry their
books would be few and far between. Many of the so called Christian
bookstores only carry books with which the owners more or less agree with.
