It doesn't seem like much of a book review - is it really meant to be? It's
mostly just Ruse being Ruse, thinking out loud about the subject of
pre-Adamites.
Though I don't think the speculation is going to cause much of a rift among
those who accept evolution (and for those who don't, it's a non-issue
anyway). I think Chesterton said (John C. Wright has repeated this one
often) that the doctrine of the fall is one of the most obvious teachings in
Christianity - you only have to look around (or really, look at yourself) to
see evidence that man has an imperfect, flawed nature and is in need of
assistance from on high. 'Where does homo floresiensis fit into all this, if
this was a divergent species?' and the like are interesting questions, but
along the lines of 'Were Judas and/or Pilate saved?' Not the sort of stuff
that tempers are going to run high over, because precious little is at stake
personally or theologically, whichever way an answer is supplied.
