Although the fundamental error that Paul discusses in Rom. 1-2 is
idolatry, the specific consequences cited are examples of immorality.
In ch. 2, it's especially evident that one of the critical "evidences"
available to anyone is the conscience, which is not amenable to
scientific analysis, especially as far as questions of right or wrong.
(One can propose, and possibly test, ideas such as an evolutionary
model of why a particular belief about what's right might be
successful, but this does nothing to tell us what's right or wrong.)
Thus, it's not evident that scientific information about the physical
world is part of what Paul has in mind. Of course, even the
conscience doesn't get us to God-it just tells us that we're in
trouble, and we need to learn about Christ to find the solution.

A good example of how science doesn't help is "consider the ant, you
sluggard." Does this mean that I can sustain my laziness by raiding
picnics? Does it mean that I should crawl instead of walking upright?
If I already know, on theological grounds, that laziness is wrong,
consideration of the ant can prick my conscience. But that is not
learned from biology.
