Dick Fischer and David Campbell have both made comments about Debbie's statement above, and I agree with both of them, noting also that neither of them deny the truth of her statement.
Technically, she could have said, "There is strong evidence that the story of Noah is substantially based on a version of the Mesopotamian flood story which is closer to the one found in the Epic of Gilgamesh than to the other Mesopotamian versions which we have."
But, I think her statement is sufficient for her purposes.
