You mean what does a civil union have to do with a sacrament and holy
matrimony? Of course, you do.
In a marriage, there is a blending or mixing of different attributes
(male/female).
Flavors marry.
Same sex "marriages" don't blend.
Nor do I necessarily even agree that any civil-ization is wise to put a
non-reproductive relationship on a par with a reproductive relationship, hence even
in a state separated from its churches I would wonder about its societal
health if it had civil marriages rather than civil unions for homosexuals.
