Re: Christianity and vaccinations?

Michael and others,

I didn't contribute point 3 to argue that this was the general Christian
response to vaccinations. I was ADDING to the points others had made. I'm
well aware of the Jonathan Edwards example, as well as other Christians who
championed medical advances and vaccinations. The book I quoted from did not
exaggerate this angle; the paragraph I cited is the only such mention of
this Christian reaction in the book. Elsewhere, the book gives good
treatment of positive Christian efforts and medical work.

I know that you aren't denying that those "daft" Christian responses
existed. My point (in the context of the overall thread) was to point out
that there have always been a variety of Christian reactions to new medical
and technological advances. Some things never change. We seem to have that
same variety of reactions today, and this goes back to my point 1, namely
that there is a sort of correspondence in theological and scientific
epistemologies that exist in people. Truly, the theology/science interface
has always been a challenge for people.

Cheers,
Doug
