You'd have to ask them. Denver is on the front range and there are lots
of places nearby that require 4wd. Even Houston has a few such places in
the countryside. I've driven a 4wd on a "road" not 40 miles from downtown
Houston where a 2wd would not get by. It is road clearance as well as 4wd
that makes a difference. Also carrying capacity.
Granted that 90% of one's driving does not require it. The other 10%
cannot be ignored.
BTW, both my SUVs, a 98 Mercury Mountaineer and a 98 Jeep Wrangler, get
about 19 or 20 MPG overall. Not great -- also not too shabby.
