Hello list:
Has anyone heard Phillip Johnson speak recently? Is anyone familiar with
his current emphasis and approach to evolution as science? Is he mostly
promoting Intelligent Design (ID) nowadays, or is he still primarily
focused on hardening views against evolution and methodological naturalism
(MN)?
He is scheduled for several meetings in the Milwaukee, WI area in the next
couple of weeks: Marquette University, Elmbrook Church (my home church
growing up and where my father is missions pastor), and Timberlee Camp (E.
Free camp; I think the event is a father-son retreat). I was thinking of
trying to go to one talk, but it means a bit of a drive and a day away from
my family (I currently live in Rockford, IL). There will certainly be many
people I know who will be hearing him at one of these events and I want to
be prepared to comment, even if I can't attend. I hope to at least get the
tape of the Elmbrook Church talk. I've read _Darwin on Trial_, but have
not read his more recent material.
I've explained to my parents why I am not a fan of Johnson's arguments,
ideas and rhetoric, but I realize that my direct knowledge of his ideas is
somewhat dated by now. I don't expect that his arguments have changed
much, but I am willing to be corrected on that assumption. Would anyone
care to give an informed summary (whether critical, favorable or neutral)?
P.S. As per Terry's directions, please don't respond to this query unless
you have something useful to contribute.
Thanks.
Douglas
