Although the Omphalos type of argument provides an explanation for apparent age, that view seems rarely endorsed. Young earth advocates do make God out to be a liar when they make false claims about the evidence and identify these claims as gospel truth. Claims such as the non-existence of buried craters or the evolutionary origin of the geologic column are simply wrong, no matter how old the earth may be.
