    My
Colleague, John Wood told me, re Bumblebees ability to fly:

    Harry,
Thanks for sending this along. I don't think "the creationist"
can take credit for originating the bumblebee story, but they have
picked it up and used it. Some of the detail for it are given in
McMasters, John H. The Flight of the Bumblebee and Related
Myths of Entomological Engineering", American Scientist V. 77
(March-April) 1989, pp. 164-169. I have a copy if you want to see
it. The story, according to McMaster, dates from German technical
universities in the 1930's. I have heard it used as a general
cirticism of science, ie. "they say that it is scientifically impossible
for a bumblebee to fly, but no one has told that to the bumble bee!"
     Cheers,
      John
