In my morning paper (Dallas Morning News, Nov. 16, 1995, p. 24a there is an
article on a new hominid find from Longgupo (I think this means Dragon bone
something) China. It is dated at 2.0 Myr. It is apparently a Homo habilis or
Homo ergaster both of which are earlier forms than Homo Erectus. To have one
of those species previously only known from Africa, this widespread 2 million
years ago implies to me that they had been around for quite a while prior to
2 million years ago. It would take some time for them to spread.

It will take me a few days to get the Nature article on this.
