The Christian faith is also bathed in data. Some of us have faith in
certain tenets of the Christian faith which may appear to be contrary
to scientific and historical facts. Others of us apply our
scientific and historical database to modify some of the tenets of
the Christian faith data set which appear to be at odds.
Read some Genesis commentaries. Do they all agree? I have read
almost every one. I can assure you even the experts have differing
opinions on some of the same issues we discuss on this list.
What we have in common is we all wrestle with it. In general, we
have honest dispute. Had God wished it to be easy, He could have
just said: "Love and trust me, believe in my Son, and do onto others
as you would have them do onto you." Simple.
But then, people would ask, "Tell me something about yourself, tell
me about your Son, and etc." So they would need a book to tell them
all that stuff. One writer alone wouldn't have been trusted, so
forty-four authors made contributions over 1500 years for
authenticity. All the old scrolls wore out and had to be recopied.
We speak English, they didn't. The Bible writers were ancient, using
words of antiquity, while we are modern, and don't talk like they did.
The Christian message has overall believability. On the fringes,
there are seeming difficulties. We look for solutions to those
difficulties. Join us in the search for answers if you like, or
scoff at us if you feel like it. The nice thing about being
Christian is that we have been scoffed at for years, and are none the
worse for it.
