    How about the Bible?

    There is a particular passage in which the Bible says that God explains in
    gory detail to the Hebrews how to prepare their captured "beautiful young
    girl" for her first conubuial encounter. Having killed her parental units,
    it says, have her shave her head and let her cry for a month. Then take her.
    At this particular moment, being "on the road," I don't have a copy of the
    OT handy. So I'll copy myself to tell me to look up the reference later.
