Dear All:

For what it's worth, I wrote privately to Ms. Matchett a few weeks ago, a very brief but entirely polite note asking her to take my name off her "ASA mailing list", as I no longer wished to receive her posts. I did not say anything against her, or against her views, or against her posts, but merely indicated that I did not wish to receive them. She replied, reasonably, politely and succinctly: "Of course"; I have not received anything from her since. I recommend trying this approach before trying anything more drastic. It may be that she will remove from her distribution list any individual who asks, without giving any trouble at all. If that is the case, then this is a privately resolvable matter which need not occupy our public discussion any longer.

FWIW, I had a similar experience to Cameron several months ago. I sent something like "please remove me from whatever mailing list you are using" and since then have not received any email at all from Janice, or from her sock puppet "Lynn Walker". Not to defend her behavior, but it seems pretty easy to avoid the irritant.
