My frustration is we have already talked about the design detector in every
human mind. List folks said that doesn't come from a reductionists model -
it probably is not part of the brain - and therefore comes from the soul,
the "ghost in the machine".
At the time I was unhappy about that because I had not yet read
Polkinghorne. Now that I realize the mind is a non-deterministic
hypercomplex machine that is beyond the mind but merely supervened upon the
brain - and its pattern recognition ability does not come from the brain -
now I am starting to see the validity of the ghost in the machine argument.

The problem is when we see sculpture we recognize the handiwork of mind -
the handiwork of a non-dterministic hypercomplex processing system.

This does not address the issue of whether that system is natural or an be
explained by evolution. If it was based on reductionistic principles then
biological evolution would be in play. But it isn't. It is on the other
side of the "supervention divide" [I am hoping to coin a term here? :)] So
the best we could speak of is co-evolution, one side being iological
evolution, the other side being evolution of the mind. Parenthetically, I am
afraid I don't see anybody ruling God out of the latter.

I think materialists have foolishly hung their view of design on the wrong
coat-hook.
Design recognizers are all non-deterministic hypercomplex systems that
cannot be explained solely by biological evolution.

The naturalists, who are comprised mostly of theological naturalists, have
an interesting problem. How do they differentiate programming from a
transcendental being (God?) from programming given only by nature?
Programming like love or design recognition? Good luck on that one. How
do we relate this programming to what science can examine? Good luck on
that one too. Polkinghorne has definitely upset the applecarts in my life.

As I said, we already talked about design detectors in the human mind, and
everybody sort of seemed to brush it under the rug. Those who thought
humans have a spirit just assumed "hey- thats cool" but I then didn't
understand how they could insist design is just an illusion and ID is
invalid just because evolution didn't produce the design detector. I heard
no explanation on that issue.

Later we came to hear about how a lot of TE-leaning folks do believe some
form of design is real. TE-istic-designists. Wow.

So I am amazed, dismayed, pleasantly surprised, confused, annoyed, and
generally flabbergasted. A normal day in my life.
