Attention Cameron:   I think we may have stumbled here on to what it would take to unify TE's with YEC's under the general description George offered.   I venture to say that if YEC's and anti-evolutionists would frame their objections as below and reject it on theological grounds and claim mystery as to how it is possible, most TE's on this list would respect that and could accept them in TE tent. However besides these two, all the others cross the line and attempt to distort science to support their position which is dishonest and thus the division, rightly so. This is possibly a better of example of my attempted distinction between offensive faith and defensive faith positions in earlier posts. I think Todd Wood's position is totally acceptable to Christian's not immersed in all the details of this controversy and I would be happy to accept them as friends. YEC leaders do them a disservice though by poisoning them with anti-science responses and therein lies the problem. Todd Wood is at least honest enough to see and admit this.   Hopefully though this is a sign of things to come.   Thanks   John   ________________________________ From: Dennis Venema <Dennis.Venema@twu.ca> To: Ted Davis <TDavis@messiah.edu>; "asa@lists.calvin.edu" <asa@lists.calvin.edu>; Louise Freeman <lfreeman@mbc.edu> Sent: Wed, November 4, 2009 12:24:02 PM Subject: Re: [asa] Interesting blog post Todd Wood is always worth a read. He, along with Kurt Wise, are known as “the honest creationists” among biologists of all creeds (or none). To paraphrase a recent credit card advertisement: Christians who hold to YEC: a dime a dozen Christians who are honest about the evidence for evolution: regretfully rare Both attributes in one person: priceless. The fact that Todd can be honest about the evidence for evolution immediately raises the question: why is his approach so vanishingly rare? As Christians, honesty is a basic tenet of the faith. Where are the other honest creationists? Why can we point to only two? Todd has a new post up as of yesterday on this issue: read it all, and read it now: it’s worth every word. http://toddcwood.blogspot.com/2009/11/nature-of-idolatry.html On 04/11/09 9:05 AM, "Ted Davis" <TDavis@messiah.edu> wrote: Todd Wood, the creationist from Bryan College who is the topic of the blog entry Louise sent us (http://scienceblogs.com/tfk/2009/11/todd_wood_talks_some_sense.php), will be speaking at Messiah next spring, about the state of creationist ideas today.  ASA members take note: you can attend a 3-lecture symposium he will do on Sat April 10. > >Ted > > > > >To unsubscribe, send a message to majordomo@calvin.edu with >"unsubscribe asa" (no quotes) as the body of the message. > >
