I simply want to issue a welcome to Cameron Wybrow, a scholar I've never met
but whose work has been known to me for many years. Dr Wybrow is a careful
and original scholar whose work ought to be better known to all in the ASA.
The books of his that I know cover (1) the history of the idea of human
dominion over nature, from the ancients down through Francis Bacon; and (2)
a volume devoted to the ideas of Michael Beresford Foster, the British
philosopher whose work has been so influential on those (like me) who think
that elements of Christian theology shaped early modern science. I reviewed
both of those books in the ASA journal back in 1994

I encourage folks to go read that review and engage Dr Wybrow in
conversation about his work.
