Is there any evidence in this book that torture is efficacious?

I dont want to avoid the ethical question, but if there is no objective evidence that torture works, then why do it?

In my opinion even if it worked, torture cannot be morally justified. And here is a related question. If functional MRI, and other imaging technologies, could absolutely determine if someone is being deceptive, is using that type of technology acceptable morally?
