has created, and that evolutionary explanations are true.,,, Now, I
can think of three reasons a person might be unable to self-identify
as a TE.
1. They're not a theist.
2. They don't think that evolutionary explanations are true.
3. They don't think that evolutionary explanations and theism can
both be true.
Umm there are other reasons. I don't self-identify as a TE for other
reasons. None of the above apply.
4. I don't like the label -- it places "evolution" above "theist." I
would not accept the label "gravitational theist," or many others, for
obvious reasons. EC (evolutionary Creationist" fails on the same test,
as well as not being recognized by others.
I still prefer PC as a descriptive label. a philosophical position
that holds that the creator has interacted with our world in the past
and continues to interact with it. The "how" of this interaction does
not appear to be within the view of science, at least not physical or
biological science, for there the MN principle prevails. As far as
social sciences, where humans are necessarily involved, the answer may
well be different. It is my claim that God has directly interacted
with me on a number of occasions (one of these I wrote about on my web
site). But my claim cannot be "scientific," for there is no way to
falsify it.
PC, to me, does not necessarily encompass the ID claims, of which I am
skeptical. But it does imply (to me) a playful God, One who not only
delights in His creation but enjoys "playing" with it. Those opposing
my view here usually say "tinkering with it," in the sense that
"tinker" is, to them, a pejorative. I guess it is not a pejorative to
me.
