It occurred to me that mentioning the ASA in public forums from time
to time, when the occasion was "right," might be a way of interesting
some people into looking at it.
The web site
http://www.orlandosentinel.com/news/space/orl-evolution1108feb11,0,1678735.story
contains an article on the "tens of thousands" of YEC believers who
wrote in to the State Education people about new educational
standards. AT the end of the article is a forum for comments.
I added my own, with a notation that persons wishing to understand
more about such issues might take a look at the ASA web site.
WHat do you all think about this kind of "advertising"? It is pretty
low key. But it might be useful

Clash over teaching evolution hits Orlando
State education officials have hearings before voting on science standards.

Evolution has been a cornerstone of biology for more than 100 years,
but don't try to tell that to many of the thousands of people who
posted comments on Florida's Department of Education Web site.
"The last time I went to the zoo, the monkeys weren't evolving into
man," read one comment.
"Evolution is not proven and we should not brainwash our children with
this concept," stated another. . . .
My post says:
It is terrible to see such ignorance in action. Those who sincerely
think the YEC (Young Earth Creationism) idea is correct -- or even
think it MIGHT be correct, need to do some serious study of the
issues.
One group of people who have done this are members of the American
Scientific Affiliation (ASA), a 60 year old organization of scientis
who are also Christians, mostly evengelical Christians. Our web site
at www.asa3.org is a good place to begin reading.
