Here's a message from the ASA annual meeting program chairs. Those of you who are ASA members should have received this note on Friday. Hope to see many of you there!
Randy

Dear ASA colleague:

Why do we do science? How do we use it? What difference does it make that we're Christians? Share your ideas from your particular background and experience, and hear how others see their work -- in fields such as pediatrics, astronomy, ag missions, sustainable agriculture, engineering, ecology, bioethics, chemistry, nuclear physics, science education, sociology, anthropology -- as Christian service.

The ASA conference this year is about "Doing and using science, domestically and abroad, in service to God, God's world, and our human sisters and brothers". The title, based on Micah 6:8, is "The Heart of Science: Do Right, Love Mercy, Walk Humbly".

Submit your abstract at http://www.asa3.org/ASA/meetingASA.html . The original Call for Papers had presentations with a 20 minute length plus 5 minutes of discussion. However, upon request we are revising this to 30 minutes including discussion. The abstract deadline is January 15. (Please contact Carol Aiken at carol@asa3.org if you intend to submit an abstract but need a few extra days.)

Please pass this on to your friends and colleagues. And encourage people whom you know to be good speakers to submit an abstract, too. There is a place in the agenda for all good reports of science-and-theology related activities and ideas which involve diligent Christian service. Posters are welcome as well.

Blessings,
John Van Zytveld & Arnold Sikkema (program co-chairs)

P.S. If you're on Facebook (www.facebook.com , an internet social-networking site), you can indicate your interest in the conference by clicking "Add to My Events" after doing a search for the term "Heart of Science" under "Events", and then you can put in your (informal) RSVP and also invite others who are either on Facebook or not. Perhaps we can build interest in the conference in this way and spread the word, in addition to the ASA website itself.

To unsubscribe, send a message to majordomo@calvin.edu with
"unsubscribe asa" (no quotes) as the body of the message.
