I was speaking pre-Eden man/animal.? I don't think that God created men in one go.? I think God created us through evolution and as such the "image of God" that man is created in ( to whatever degree is more so than animals) was earned slowly by the human animal over time.? That is in fact my interpretation of Genesis because God has since shown me through His immanence such things as evolution to help me interpret the Bible.?

That said, there is no doubt in my mind, Gordon, that your interpretation of the Bible is perfectly fine with God, as long as you follow the Spirit in making it, and that's all that matters.? I don't think there can be only one correct interpretation of the Bible.? Even leaders among the same denomination have points upon which they collectively differ.?

After millions of years of instinctive responses to Creation (our environment) we began to evolve (be created in more of the image of God) a response that is called condition response and it is Creation that does the conditioning ultimately causing us to reason by merit of the immanence of God instead of just feel.?

I find nothing in the Bible about there being different degrees of being
in the image of God. In the context of Genesis 1 man was made in the image
of God so that he could be put in charge of the creatures that had
previously been made. This should apply equally to all human beings (as in
James 3:9) and not to other creatures.?
?

By contrast we can be conformed to the image of His Son (Romans 8:29), but
this is a different type and not true of all humans.?
