Arianna from Anchorage: Hi, there are some kids at my school whose
parents don't let them go to science class because the teacher
teaches extensively in evolution and I wonder if you have a comment
on that.
Richard Dawkins: Well, I better restrain myself I suppose. I think
that it is a form of mental child abuse by the parents on the
children. I think parents don't own their children and there are
limits of the rights that parents have over their children's minds. I
think to really echo something I said to the last question. I think
it would be equivalent to not allowing their kids to go to geography
class because the geography teacher taught that the world was round.
I do think it's a very bad thing and I think there are limits to the
freedom of the parents to brainwash their children.
Joe Palka: Uh, Arianna thank you for that call.
Arianna: You're welcome.
Joe Palka: Yes, uh, very interesting, right, [stammering] Let's take
another call...
