My experience is similar. I limit more substantive engagements to
personal interactions. (On a side note, most of the non-Christians I
interact with are not atheists.) On line YEC has so damaged the
debate the best we can hope for is "damage control". It may look like
we are more interested in defending evolution than apologetics but
that's the motivation behind it when I do it. And my goal is even
more limited than that. I am not as such defending TE as making the
lurkers aware another point of view exists. I am not discouraging
people like Glenn or Francis Collins from publicly take on the
atheists, but I have found that I, like Keith, am much more
successful doing so face-to-face.
