Perhaps the problem is that 'struggle for existence' is such a poor
description of evolutionary theory. In fact, altruism and reciprocal
altruism seem to be 'strategies' that arise 'naturally' under
evolutionary scenarios.

My position: Expect reciprocal altruism and a real threat of
punishment to those who do not abide by the rules. In other words,
people are basically good until they have shown through their actions
that they cannot and should not be trusted.
