I recommend the following article from the LA Times.

I am anxious myself not to pursue the partisan aspects of this
particular issue, even though the article focuses on this. I draw
this to the attention of this list as a point of information. The
final quotation is from my colleague Joe Sheldon, a past president of
the ASA and author of one of the more widely used textbooks on
environmental science. Joe has also testified before a congressional
committee about religion and environmental policies.
I will add another point. This past year, Messiah hosted the
Pennsylvania premiere of the new film “The Great Warming,” a dramatic
documentary narrated by Keanu Reeves and Alanis Morissette, with
footage from around the world that illustrates the societal impact of
climate change on politics, religion, science, education, energy and
economics. [For more details, visit www.thegreatwarming.com.] One of
the religious leaders interviewed in the movie and quoted in the LA
Times, the Rev. Richard Cizik of the National Association of
Evangelicals, provided brief comments on the national conversation
surrounding Christians’ roles and involvement with the stewardship of
the natural environment. U.S. Senator Rick Santorum sent a
representative, and State Treasurer and U.S. Senatorial Candidate
Robert Casey, Jr., delivered a brief response to the film regarding
global warming’s impact on public policy and its importance as a
contemporary political issue.
This is an area in which the ASA can show great leadership.
