[asa] Christian TV special

To all:

Below is an announcement for a new TV special by James Kennedy that
lays the blame for Hitler's holocaust at Darwin's door. This is part
of a continuing attempt to identify evolution as the source of social
evil -- as opposed to human sin. There remains a continuing battle
to get people to distinguish scientific conclusions, or theological
doctrines, from the ways in which they are abused and used for evil.
Using the kind of logic typical of these accusations, the Christian
faith is equally to blame for all manner of social evils --
including the holocaust.

Also note that Francis Collins is listed as a participant and
contributor to this special. However, Francis as responded to this
announcement and stated that his presence in this video was done
without his knowledge or permission. He was apparently interviewed
regarding his new book, and they used material from that interview in
the video without his knowledge. Using someone's name and image to
promote a view that they do not support, and further to do so without
their knowledge, is a breach of professional ethics -- let alone
Christian morality.

I am repeatedly embarassed by the unethical behavior being carried
out in the name of the church. The damage to the integrity of the
Christian gospel to those in the academy is considerable. My non-
Christian colleagues have considerably more professional ethics than
these individuals who seek to represent Jesus to the world.

Keith

New Christian broadcasting TV special featuring Ann Coulter blames
Darwin for Hitler

An upcoming television special produced by a Christian broadcaster that
features conservative pundit Ann Coulter blames Charles Darwin for
Adolf Hitler, RAW STORY has learned.

"Author and Christian broadcaster Dr. D. James Kennedy connects the
dots between Charles Darwin and Adolf Hitler in Darwin’s Deadly Legacy,
a groundbreaking inquiry into Darwin’s chilling social impact,"
announces a press release issued by Florida's Coral Ridge Ministries.
"The new television documentary airs nationwide on August 26 and 27 on
The Coral Ridge Hour."

"To put it simply, no Darwin, no Hitler," says Dr. Kennedy. "Hitler
tried to speed up evolution, to help it along, and millions suffered
and died in unspeakable ways because of it."

Fourteen scholars, scientists, and authors featured on the show
"outline the grim consequences of Darwin’s theory of evolution and show
how his theory fueled Hitler’s ovens," according to the press release.

Other participants include From Darwin to Hitler author and California
State University modern European history professor Richard Weikart; the
director of the Human Genome Project, Francis Collins; and biochemist
Michael Behe who wrote Darwin’s Black Box and is a prominently cited
source against evolution in Coulter's latest book (in a recent study,
Media Matters argued that Coulter's endnotes were "rife with
distortions and falsehoods").

"This show basically is about the social effects of Darwinism, and
shows this idea, which is scientifically bankrupt, has probably been
responsible for more bloodshed than anything else in the history of
humanity," one of the show's producers, Jerry Newcomb, told World Net
Daily.
