I'm no great fan of the American Center for Law and Justice on some fronts,
but they have been involved in some important religious liberty cases, and
I'm even less of a fan of the ACLU when it comes to religious liberty. The
quote you're providing here is very much out of context. Most of the text
deals with partial birth abortion and other issues. It's primarily a
rally-the-troops letter in response to troop-rallying in the ACLU camp.
Here's the full text of the ACLJ letter: http://www.aclj.org/ACLJToday.aspx
It's hardly "another group fighting evolution." You're correct that the
ACLJ has ties to Pat Robertson (but not directly, I don't think, to
Fallwell). Robertson, though, as much of a nut as he can be, doesn't seem
beholden to YEC, since his Regent University appears to be welcoming to
OEC's such as Hugh Ross.
