Not so fast. There is "very strong evidence" that the eleventh tablet of Gilgamesh (written in Akkadian, a Semitic language) does predate the version in Genesis. There is also evidence that Gilgamesh followed both Atrahasis and Ziusudra which are in Akkadian and Sumerian respectively. Also, the official language for writing this kind of literature was Sumerian until the rein of Sargon, ca. 2371 BC, whereupon the official language became Akkadian.
In short, you can't really tell whether the original versions were written by Sumerians or Akkadians, for sure. Akkadians were Semites or Adamites. They did indeed write about the flood. Earlier epic tales only further corroborate the event. No apologies necessary.
