ID functions as just another schism to make Christians look ignorant and
to foment another round of anti-scientism among the faithful which I
don't see as helpful. Plus it plays into the hands of creationists
giving them another arrow in their quiver to fire away at hard working
scientists and gullible Christians. As an issue it is divisive and
counterproductive.
I see no positive benefits except that it puts a burr in the saddle of
honest scientists to rally around a common cause. If the rebound effect
puts more information out to the general public then that could be a
good thing. It's like Satan can be good because it drives us to seek
after God. Or like banging your head against the wall can be good
because it feels so good when you stop. Or like crime can be good
because it gives you so much time in prison to think and repent.
