Here's my proposal for a solution: ALLOW ONLY ONE POST PER PERSON PER DAY.

I agree with David. The problem with these restrictions on posts per day is
that those advocating it are wanting it because of their convenience, not
becuase it will help the quality. I have never seen any forum on the
internet anywhere that didn't have a fraction of flotsom and jetsom posts
that weren't worth reading--probably on this list the flotsam and jetsom
posts are from me. But never the less, most of these requests are coming
from those who don't post very much and I find that curious. Are the
participants to be limited by the non-participants who either want to read
all posts or don't want an inbox with lots of posts? Who is actually making
this list worth reading (assuming that it is), the participants or the
non-participants?

If the goal of this list is to encourage a discussion of Science Faith
issues, then take the limits off--encourage the discussion rather than
discourage it with arbitrary limitations for the convenience of those who
want us to entertain them with great posts. I didn't realize until today
that some view this list as a form of their entertainment and we are the
performers who are not performing up to their expectations.

As I said in an earlier post on this thread. If unlimited posts is terrible,
and 4 is bad, and 2 is better and 1 post per day is even better, then let's
take this to the extreme--one post per life time. That way you will be
forced to write the most entertaining and significant thing you can, so that
the lurkers will be entertained and their inboxes will be empty.

LIke David, any further restriction in the number of posts per day will kill
this list. As it is, I find places like Theologyweb more useful because of
the technology they are using, although, unfortunately, the science area has
now been taken over by the atheists who have no interest in anything but
separating science and faith.

I would also point out that if the ASA wants to reach the young scientists,
then the internet is the place to do it but that means we better quit
avoiding the latest technology. It makes us look like a bunch of stodgy old
geezers who will soon die off with no one paying any particular attention at
the passing.
