I don't call myself a preterist but I'm sympathetic to some of their
views. The reference to Nero, however, is just too obvious in view of
John's circumstances.

Yes I have seen those references, I am not convinced that 666b was
supposed to refer to Nero, but it is interesting.
 
I dont know if you have seen any of my messages on the ASA forum
regarding preterism. I believe that 70AD is of more significance than
most of the church believes. In fact I am what you would call a full
preterist, that is, I believe the second coming was in 70AD, etc etc.
 
By this statement of yours you seem to be suggesting that, at least, you
think that the authors of the New Testament were expecting the events of
the last days to occurr within the first century. I am curious, what is
your view on this issue if you dont mind answering?

At last a day we can celebrate(?) on the same day on both sides of the
Atlantic Pond. Before anyone crawls under the bed to escape the
antichrist this is just a brief reminder that those numbers likely
referred to Nero. Okay, say a prayer or two just in case.
