List,
As the old-timers know, we've been round and round on this one (the
topic of homosexuality). Nearly every time it comes up, it gets ended
with a moderator declaration "end of thread". It is not off-topic in
principle (there's lots of science, medicine, psychology, sociology,
etc. in the discussion), but most of the time we get side-tracked
into hot-headed debates about this verse or that verse and accuse
people of not taking the Bible seriously if they don't see things the
same way.
Let's be cautious and civil--and I might add, just because we're
adults doesn't mean we can verbally abuse each other. One of the
distinguishing characteristics of this list over the years (and I
fear it has degraded a bit in recent months), has been the civility
of the conversation, unlike other internet groups where flaming seems
to be the norm.
Although I don't agree 100% with the Christian Reformed Church's
position on homosexuality, I might commend to you the extensive
research that they have done over the years. A summary can be found
at http://www.crcna.org/pages/positions_homosexuality.cfm. The church
takes a strong stand against homosexual practice in the context of a
fairly nuanced position on homosexual orientation.
List manager,
