Hello!

I'm new here (to the list and the asa). I'm a college student with a degree in chemistry (bio minor) and I am finishing up my degree in Forensic Science right now. I can say its kind of interesting being in the field of forensics since its a kind of new field and isn't really in a classification of its own. Anyway...I'm sure that there is some good research going on out there that will help us out in the field or in the lab. I can say that I'm not an expert in any field although chem was my focus of study and I have never been involved in any serious research yet.

Anyway...I always thought that the idea that life came from another planet or from space was the idea of Dr. Crick to support his naturalistic philosophy. Does anyone know?

This story is fascinating only because it is about to be published in a peer reviewed journal. I guess we can hold our comments until then.

At this time, I cant see this as anything but a hoax. The cells in question look too much like erythrocytes, and erythrocytes dont contain DNA either.

There is a long history of red rain, and blood rain, most of it explainable by dust from the Sahara, buttefly droppings, hoaxes, or various other explanations. I think that the least likely explanation is that these are alien cells. But this will be an intersting story to follow over the next several months.

My theory is that an alien spaceship exploded and these cells are the blood cells of those aliens. They should know better than to invade us. ;)

There's a more plausible explanation then space aliens. Our sun is a second generation star. That earlier star became a nova about 5.5 billion years ago and seeded our solar system with its elements. If an array of planets circled that earlier star upon which life had developed, then rudimentary life too could have been sprinkled on our planets jump starting life on earth at a very early stage.

But as to whether this is evidence or not, who knows?
