For an ASA statement on this subject to be effective I think it would need
to be made clear that it is not just a bunch of theistic evolutionists
defending their views. Rather than focus on evolution it should cover a
wide range of interpretations pointing out that people known for their
orthodoxy and spirituality have varied interpretations from a wide
spectrum, and it should emphasize that the people behind the statement
also cover such a wide spectrum.
Since differing views are represented on the Executive Council, I am
confident that they can come up with a statement acceptable to the vast
majority of ASA members.
