Re: tsunami impact on animals

I saw a recent TV program on either Discover Channel or Animal Planet
about elephants. There was a comment given that new research suggests
that elephants can detect ground vibrations through their trunks.
However, there was no discussion about earthquakes or tsunamis, the
sensitivity of the animal, what the animal uses this ability for, etc.
etc. But one does have to wonder then how small of a vibration the
animal can detect and how it would behave given the size/duration/etc.
of any vibrations, what it can determine based on them; etc. etc..

Regards,
Charles
