To the group,
Of course, we're re-treading old ground here. One might search
through the PSCF/JASA on-line archives for Fischer's papers and the
responses, including some from David Siemens.
I wanted to remind us of Dave Young's article--posing mostly
questions--but asking hard questions of conservative evangelical
theologians about our theology of Adam and Eve. It's at
http://www.asa3.org/ASA/resources/CSRYoung.html and is called "The
Antiquity and the Unity of the Human Race Revisited". Perhaps with
this discussion fresh in mind it may be time to re-read that article.
His main point is that the Biblical description of the culture
strongly suggest a date for Adam around 10,000 BC. This poses a
serious problem for those who would push Adam back even to 100,000
MYA let alone the kinds of dates Glenn Morton is talking about.
It might also be good to re-read Fischer himself:

http://www.asa3.org/ASA/PSCF/1994/PSCF3-94Fischer.html
Jack McIntyre has a recent paper along these lines:
http://www.asa3.org/ASA/PSCF/2002/PSCF9-02McIntyre.pdf
with a response from Siemens
http://www.asa3.org/ASA/PSCF/2002/PSCF12-02Siemens.pdf
http://www.asa3.org/ASA/PSCF/2002/PSCF12-02McIntyre.pdf
(these two letters are embedded in the Book Reviews and Letters
section--we'll get them extracted one of these days.)
Heard an interesting report on Coast2CoastAM last night about some
research on something alleged to be Atlantis..submerged about a mile
somewhere east of Cyprus. The discussion of the ebbs and flows of the
Mediterranean reminded me a bit of Glenn's hypothesis, although much
more recent--say 10,000 BC. Don't know if there's any geological data
to support a mile difference from today in the Mediterranean sea
level...
