Dick,

Concerning the Genesis Flood, you wrote (Nov 2),

"Well, Vern, it certainly wasn't global, so if it wasn't local, then I guess it just wasn't."

Clearly then, it is your view that _the evolutionary (and 'old earth') enterprise_ depends critically on the nature of the Flood. The demands include: (a) local to the region of Mesopotamia, (b) of the kind we are acquainted with today, and (c) relatively tranquil. But there are many logical difficulties associated with this scenario - as I have had occasion to point out in the development of this thread - which neither Gordon nor yourself have effectively addressed. Don't you think these inconsistencies should be tackled with some urgency?

I note with concern that you are prepared to jettison Genesis, chapters 6 - 9 (together with those verses of the NT, of course, in which reference is made to the Noahic Flood), if the event is shown to be global. Maybe you didn't really mean to say that. But it effectively answers my question, Is there a Plan B? Clearly, in your view there most certainly is not.

As one claiming to possess a 'high view' of Scripture - presumably accepting it to be the divinely-inspired text that it is - you appear to lean heavily on Babylonian mythology in concluding that "fountains of the great deep" (Gen.7:11) merely refers to a system of "irrigation canals". It is really most illuminating to witness the lengths to which some are prepared to go to defend the popular belief that the Mabbul was a large flood local to Mesopotamia.

Well, Vern, it certainly wasn't global, so if it wasn't local, then I guess it just wasn't.
