Dave,

In a recent exchange with Don (Oct 31) you wrote:

"I say dogmatically that there is no proof of God's existence. Yes, there are evidences, and there are claimed proofs. But some years back I pointed out the hole in a claimed proof..."

You will be aware that I have made, and am making, such a claim - one based on solid empirical evidence - which members of this list have for some time had the opportunity to examine and challenge. Far from pointing out 'the hole' in my proof, your only response has been to rage against the very idea that our Creator would have the audacity to reveal his being and sovereignty to this generation of his reasoning creatures. In this you betray an attitude which is neither rational nor responsible. Let me say it again, Genesis 1:1 (in the original Hebrew) is the most remarkable combination of words ever written; as a strategically-placed masterpiece of supernatural design it firmly refutes your view that there is no proof of God's existence.

But we learn from the Scriptures that the witnessing of miracle carries no guarantee of a Christian conversion. To turn one's back on simple logic, however, can be no pleasant thing for the genuine seeker of truth, and the inner tensions that result may yet, in the end, and with the Lord's help, yield good fruit. Using these numero-geometrical absolutes he is reaching out particularly to the intelligentsia of this generation - and not in vain, for he already knows that some at least will understand the message, and will respond.
