Point taken Glenn. I have not followed the Black Sea argument closely so I
was unaware of that. So it is now off my tentative theories and put on the
discarded pile.
Meanwhile I will continues to accept there was a flood, but where, when and
how extensive I haven't a clue. And Glenn doesn't persuade me. There is
nothing wrong with this as a point of Christian witness. What is important
is to agree on essentials and realise where there is room for disagreement
including matters like baptism or whether or not you have bishops
Your answer to Wallyshoes was excellent. It is nice to know that you are a
heretic like me. It is decidedly unpleasant speaking to a meeting when
fellow evangelicals are hissing "heretic" at every opportunity. It is
difficult not to think that they are as culpable as their mentors.
As far as I am concerned I do not attempt to convince a YEC of evolution but
rather that the earth is a good million years old. ( I "converted " a
riend - through whom I was converted some 20 years ago to accept about a
million years, since then Henri Blocher himself has aided the process - he
lives in France) I also seek to explain that "orthodox" Christians have had
a wide diversity of views on Genesis in the last 2000 years and that a
literal 6 day position cannot claim to be dominant at any period of the
churches history and definitely cannot claim to be more than a minority view
since 1800 and before. Perhaps that answers Wallyshoes complaint which was
put in an aggressive manner. Yes Christians to adopt literalism, Gap theory,
dayage concordism, framework or simply symbolic views of Genesis. None can
claim to command unanimous support and we have to live with that.
