I think sheila has made the main point. Sex is only sanctified when its
direct aim is procreation, which means sex is never an end in itself. Religiously,
that means the important thing to do is to master the sex drive, one of the
most powerful of the body's drives in the pursuit of self discipline. One who
is partially disciplined cannot do the will of the Father. Only mastery of the
body gives one the total freedom to do God's will whatever it is. You cannot
be bound to the body and bound to God. It's one or the other.

“This is why the Father loves me, because I lay down my life in order to take
it up again. No one takes it from me but I lay it down on my own. I have
power to lay it down and power to take it up again. This command I have received
    from my Father (John 10:17).”

Not everybody wants to be religious, and that's fine. One who cannot master
the body cannot presume to match the religiosity of one who does or we'd all be
sons of God. Then what of the achievement of the true Son of God?
