Actually, it implies nothing of the sort. If anything, information is *not*
conserved since it is constantly increasing. This fact does not invalidate
the question of "where did it come from." That woud only be the case if we
thought the question implied a *transfer* of information from one place to
another and that infomation could not be created. For example, if I were to
create some information it would be a perfectly valid question to ask "where
did it come from?" The answer would then be "From that (semi-) intelligent
designer called Richard."
Concerning evolution and the gain of information:
Though I haven't thought it all the way through, I have no prima facie
problem with this idea. The miracle of God's creation of DNA is that it is
adaptive, though I doubt it could "adapt" to the point of creation of new
irreducibly complex organs. Thus, I would not be surprised to find an
increase in information as organisms adapt to their environments though
natural selection. I also would expect a *decrease* in information due to
harmful mutations.
My intuition is that the ability of any living system to increase in
information is due to the divine design of its DNA that originated in
biogenesis.
This looks like a very interesting area of research.
