I always thought that Paul had some (unidentified) group of "bad guys" in
mind, but you may be right.

That Paul knew scripture well, including the Levitical taboos, is a
virtual certainty, I agree. But his stance was not "against
homosexuality," as that particular condition was not recognized as such
until about 100 years ago. It is clear that he regarded the homosexual
acts he knew about (almost certainly those which were connected with
pagan temple rites) with disgust and condemnation.
This is not easy stuff.
