Hi Deborah,
Thank you for the verses you quoted. I'm not sure, however, that I follow how
all of them apply to the discussion. And, yes, scripture is our guide.
But, jiminy, we should not stop there and think we have solved anything. It
is not enough IMHO to discuss homosexuality in the abstract, or in solely
biblical and theological terms.
I have suggested two requirements for a fruitful discussion. There are
probably more. First, we need to think in human terms. I don't want to discuss
homosexuality as an abstract problem apart from people. We are concerned with
real persons like you and me, who, however, have a sexual orientation to
others of their own gender rather than to the opposite sex. That means, for one
thing, that we will not say things about them that we would not be willing to
say directly to them. And let's refer to gay and Lesbian people as persons,
rather than to the "problem of homosexuality."
Second, our discussion should be limited to people with this orientation who
are living in a permanent, loving, committed relationship. Neither you nor I
condone homosexual behavior outside of such a relationship, so there is no
need to beat that dead horse.
Tell me then, are you thinking in terms of real people with a homosexual
orientation who are living in a loving committed relationship? Or are you
treating it as a "problem" that can be solved with verses from scripture?
Thanks again, and peace to you,
Bob
