Ted posted: "Burgy asked for comments on the work of my friend, David
Griffin, one of the premier advocates of process theism (a position I
have little sympathy for myself). Yes, he is a Whiteheadian. His view
of God is much like that of the Stoics, who saw God as the world soul but
not the actual maker of heaven and earth. For more on his thought, which
is invariably expressed clearly and honestly in his many writings, see
his excellent little summary on process philosophy and theology in the
new Garland encyclopedia, Religion and Science in the Western Tradition.

Thanks, Ted. I will see if I can find that at either Iliff or DU.

I finished Griffin's book last night. It is not an easy read. To help
collect my thoughts about it -- and help me participate better in the
class, which still has two weeks to go, I'm writing up some of my
marginal notes. My intent is to share those notes here and invite
comments on them. The first set will be posted today.

It is clear to me that my own position is not in agreement with Griffin's
process theism, but I'm not yet sure why that is so. As part of the
course here at Iliff that I'm auditing, I'm trying to "get inside" the
heads of not only Griffin, but also Bultmann, McFague, Berger and
Whitehead. I think I've succeeded at this with the first three; not at
all with Griffin or Whitehead (we read his 1925 lectures).
